A lot of bang for the buck

Although the batteries do not seem to last very between charges, there are two of them in the kit along with a quick charger. The specified torque is impressive, but I think that it may be slightly exaggerated. The ergonomics, weight, and overall dimensions are nearly ideal. The box and Hitachi website indicate a 5-year warranty, but the warranty card itself indicates only a one-year warranty. The chuck is pretty cheap, and the trigger doesn’t seem very well-made. The design of the carrying case leaves a lot to be desired. All in all, after about 6 weeks, it appears to be a good drill for light to moderate homeowner duty. The quality of the drill is probably a cut above other drills available in the $99 price range, but it is certainly not worth the $150 that Lowes now charges. If you are willing to spend $140-$150, you will probably be able to get a Makita mForce or Bosch Compact Tough 14.4V-18V model and be much happier.

don’t drop it!

good torque, reasonable battery life for a medium duty drill, charges quickly. the compactness lets it get into spaces many drills won’t reach. down side: cheap plastic housing, doesn’t fit standard holster, attached belt clip won’t hang securely on hammer loop. I dropped mine about six feet and the housing broke completely in two where the handle meets the head. No parts are available yet for this model, so I had to epoxy the housing. If you need a compact drill for the tight places this is a good buy at Lowe’s for $99, just be very careful how you carry it. If you need one to use all day, this isn’t it.

Excellent drill, especially for the price.

I bought this drill based on the ergonomics. I picked up and held every drill at the store and this one has perfect ergonomics. The handle is very comfortable and it appears to be perfectly balanced, the weight is perfect, feels light but well made. This drill is the most comfortable to hold by far of any drill I have seen or tested and I looked at every brand in several stores.

The drill has a lot of torque and the clutch is great. I use it as a cordless screwdriver most of the time and a drill on occasion. Most chuck less drills have a hard time holding the bits, but you can use the DeWalt drill bits that have a hexagonal base and it solves the problem completely.

The batteries last a long time and charge in about 30 minutes. It comes with two so you can charge one while using the other. They won’t charge until they cool down however (the charger will not charge a hot battery).

If you need a longer run time, you can get NiMH or Li-Ion batteries in anywhere from 1.5Ah to 3.0Ah that fit this drill. If you go with either of those however, you will need a new charger since the supplied charger is only for Ni-Cad batteries. The UC18YRL is a universal charger that can charge all 3 types of batteries.

You can also buy the DS18DFL package which appears to be the same drill with Li-Ion batteries but without a flashlight. For some reason the Li-Ion drill is rated about 6% less torque of 374in/lbs vs this one is 400 in/lbs, although I doubt anyone could tell the difference.

The flashlight is bright and lasts a long time, I use it all the time. The light comes with a spare lamp inside if you unscrew the cover. I had a hard time finding replacement lamps for the light for a while, but then found out the Makita ML180 lamps work perfectly as a replacement so I just pick those up at a local Makita dealer.

I have dropped both the flashlight and the drill onto a concrete floor about several times and both survived without damage except killing the flashlight bulb if the light was on.

I bought two kits I use in two locations and this set has been great in every way. The batteries are getting old so I’ll replace them with NiMH or Li-Ion and get the universal charger.

All rechargeable batteries self discharge so if you charge it and store it, it will be dead when you need it. If you use it only occasionally, it is best to store the batteries with a low charge or near empty, not fully charged to extend their lifetime.

When you replace them, you can recycle them at most hardware stores or any Radioshack will accept them. Don’t throw them out, the Cadmium is toxic and like all rechargeable batteries, they should be disposed of properly.

Runs small

I saw these sandals and knew I had to have them. I waited anxiously for them to arrive, but when they finally did, I was very disappointed. I wear a size 8 1/2, and that’s what I ordered, but they were WAYYYYYYY too small. If possible, just buy these in the store or order a size larger, if you’re feeling daring.

I have bilateral Morton’s neuromas and typically wear flat shoes but wanted something pretty with a heel for a wedding. These might be the most comfortable pair of shoes I own! The footbed is very soft and cushy, and the sparkly straps give a very dressy look.

PIAA vs. Solaris (9005 bulbs)

The light output difference between the virtually clear, 60W PIAA bulbs and the lightly blue tinted, 65W Solaris bulbs is, if any, too small to calculate without instrumentation. What obvious differences exists between these two equally expensive brands of high beam bulbs (9006 is the designation used to identify your low beam bulbs) are twofold, that being, first of all, their kelvin temperatures, (which has nothing at all to do with heat, but everything to do with the color of their light outputs) 4000K for the PIAA bulbs and 4300K for the Solaris bulbs, making the Solaris bulbs the whiter of the two. The 9006 HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlights that come standard or as an option on most of today’s new cars range between 4000K and 4300K, so you’ll have to determine for yourselves which of these two brands provides the best high beam kelvin match for your car’s low beam HID system. The second difference is the fact that the Solaris bulbs project their light at a little higher angle than do the PIAA bulbs, so if you’re driving a small Honda Accord, for instance, these are the bulbs for you. If you’re driving a larger car, say a Lexus ES300, you’ll be better off with the PIAA bulbs. Unlike many other 9005 bulbs on the market today that have much higher current draws which can damage your wiring and headlamps, heavy blue tints that consequently produce far less light output than that supplied by the better designed PIAA and Solaris bulbs, neither one of these two bulbs should cause you a problem–by virtue of the heat they generate if your car’s headlamps were originally designed for use with halogen bulbs. While admittedly expensive these high performance bulbs will significantly improve the high beam performance of any vehicle equipped with standard, halogen bulbs. If you happen to be on a tight budget then you can’t go wrong with the 9005, 65W, 4000K Silverstar bulbs from Sylvania. Happy and safe night driving to you one and all.

a little unhappy

when I saw this shoes I just had to have them. I loved them as soon as I had them on my feet. With one, maybe two exeptions! #1 and the biggest, the right shoe was loose. it was the right size but on my ankle it was super lose you could see it and definitely feel it. like one of the bands was made longer. not happy about that. #2, I wore them 3 times and the heel tip fell of.. not wear off or break off it just fell!.the shoes look really cute that I dont mind getting the tip fix for a couple of bucks I do mind the strap.

Did not like at all

These shose looked so cut online but when I tried them on they felt so cheap. The strap towards the bottom width of the shoe is so wide that it lets your toes hang over and that’s a huge pet peeve of mine. The footbed is really hard too. I hate when people don’t list their size(s) in their reviews so here is goes. I wear a 6 to a 6 1/2. I bought the 6 and they did fit minus the wide foot strap towards the bottom of the shoe.

This are the best and cutest socks ever! They are well made and love the bright colours and lace top. I was pleasantly surprised to find the lace trimming made from cotton lace which made it really looked its price. She’s been wearing different pair each time she goes out, getting the compliments and is an easy dressing up option.

I wore out two pairs of earlier design Scarpa SL’s on many peaks and winter camps even though they were only rated “three season”. Those boots were the most comfortable and versatile hikers I have ever owned. Inevitable replacement needs had me look at this new model first. I was not thrilled with the elevated footbed and the fact that Scarpa apparently was falling in step with the footbed design of worthy but lesser competitors like Asolo and Vasque.

Break in was longer than anticipated; I’ll attribute that to the quality and thickness of the leather. Once properly broken in a very comfy ride is yours. Owing to the extended break in required it is critical that your foot is compatible with the last in terms of width, toe box, etc. as you will not feel the true nature of these boots in a try-on session.

The biggest weakness is again the elevated footbed that reduces agility and balance over the prior design.

An excellent all-arounder boot but not as far ahead of the competition as before.

Fantastic Boots

I bought these shoes to do the Copland Pass and parts of Arthur’s Pass in New Zealand but racked up a fair few miles in them in training before hand in the West Australian bush. This is a very comfortable boot that does take a little while to break in (so get the size right) and is an incredibly reliable boot. The only warning I would give is that if you love the pristine bordeaux leather look don’t wear them in the mountains as they will become very scuffed and develop a lot of character.

I used mine in scree, snow, rock and numerous river crossings and they loved it. The soles are flexible enough to give you all day walking comfort fully loaded up but stiff enough to wear with crampons and climb reasonably serious rock. At one point I found myself climbing about 100 feet of extremely high angle moraine wall (don’t ask) complete with the full weight of my pack and was able to trust my weight on the toes of these boots the whole time with little fatigue in my calf muscles. I’m sure there are better dedicated climbing boots out there but the SL M3s give you the comfort of a great trekking / mountaineering boot with the confidence of a well designed vibram sole and excellent geometry to get you through those situations that maybe you were not anticipating.

The SL M3 is a beautiful looking boot but the style is not there at the expense of the function, these are a very capable boot.

A quality boot but…

I bought this a few months ago. It wasn’t my number one choice for a boot, but I’ve got monster feet and they seemed like the best shoe I could find in my size. First, let me tell you- these things are heavy. More heavy than Asolos. More heavy than Vasques. They’re the heaviest boot I’ve ever seen. And suuuuper inflexible. Like, mountaineering boot inflexible. When you first get them, you walk like Frankenstein ’cause the boot won’t bend at all. Even now that they’re broken in, I can barely bend the sole even while using both hands.

But let’s get to performance. I’ve walked in these boots a lot. Before I ever took them out, I probably walked 50 miles in them. Then i went and hiked 30 miles in Kings Canyon National Park. Inclines hurt like hell. My heel smashes into the back of this boot every time I take a step on even the slightest incline- not just backpacking up a mountain, mind you, but the smallest tuft of dirt. At the end of the first 7 mile day, I had blisters on the back of my heels. This is with smartwool liner socks and smartwool trekking sicks, mind you, and green superfeet insoles. By the end of the second 7 mile day, the blisters were even worse. So, on the third day, I decided to hike 14 miles back.

I don’t think 14 miles is a lot to walk in one day. I’ve done 20 in other, crappier boots (ie- dunhams), and I never had a problem. By the end of my 14 mile trek back, I had blisters all over my feet. I had them on the tops of my toes, the aforementioned heels, the sides of my feet, the balls of my feet, etc. I had two black toes even though there’s plenty of room at the front for my feet. In short, my feet were destroyed.

I’ve only taken these boots on small hikes since and my heels still hurt going up inclines. I wondered if maybe the boots still weren’t broken in, but if I can’t break in boots after what I’ve done to them, then I don’t know how to break them in. They’re a very high quality boot. The leather is very fine, and they’re gusseted all the way up to the top. The tongue and the ankles have the nicest padding I’ve ever seen on a boot. They run a bit narrow. I ordered a wide for my D sized feet, and they still feel a bit narrow. The vibram soles will serve you well on sharp pointy rocks, but they’re a bit slippery on wet stuff. The boots are SUPER waterproof. There was this point on the trail, where 6 inches of snow run off ran down the trail for about 100 yards. I swear, I thought I was hiking in a creek! But my feet never got wet.

But honestly, I wish I would have returned them when I had the chance. I can see how they’d be great for most people, but I don’t think they’re going to get any more comfortable for me. Oh well, I guess they’re going on Craigslist!

Dressy Casual Shoe!

My foot ranges between medium and wide and I’ve never had a pair of oxfords where the two sides I’m lacing up actually meet in the center. Well, these did. My foot instantly looked narrow. Wow! Just wow!

Gray is a great neutral color. The shoes were well packaged and arrived very promptly. These are not shoes I would use for a city tour or a hike. Instead they will work great for me for dinner at a cafe where I’m not hoofing it to and fro. And that’s fine with me. I wasn’t expecting the comfort of a well-fitted athletic shoe.

They just look great! Very pleased.

Very Versatile

These shoes are terrific! They work well in both casual and formal settings. They’re also pretty comfortable, and not too bad for standing around all day. I got a pair of the grays and they match with pretty much anything. One thing to note though is that the color is not consistent, and there are patches of other shades of gray. However, I think that this adds to the shoe, and makes it more interesting. I am really glad I purchased these shoes!

Love this shoe, I like an oxford look and it’s hard to find for a women, this shoe is comforable and the color grey goes nice with my black outfits. I would recommend this shoe.

Great Purse!

I am very happy with the purse. I bought it as a gift for my daughter and she said it was perfect–exactly what she was looking for! It is very roomy, yet not too bulky. The quality of the purse is very good, only wish it had a zipper for added privacy and security. The snap buttons are not too bad though.
